This week the chill finally set in. Fall is definitely upon us. Obviously it’s such a beautiful time of year. Our street is always such a delight to walk down. The big trees changing colors and leaves falling from the trees while you walk down the brownstone-lined blocks. Theo loves to walk along and visit the various stairways and stoops. He has many friends along the way that we see on a regular basis. I do love fall but it always seems too short lived and the days get shorter so quickly. It’s a weird transition. It seems like just yesterday we were frolicking in the fountains.
Hello???
Nobody ever leaves comments! I know this blog is really for Theo (and me) to look back and remember, but I also know that many people do look and keep up with Theo and our lives. Why not comment every so often? It’s a little creepy knowing people look and don’t say anything. We welcome all kinds of comments, support, jokes, and the like! Come on!
Transit Museum (and Grandpa Joe’s visit)
Jay’s dad was just here visiting for a few days. He drove from Cleveland so we always manage to squeeze in something that requires the utilization of a car! That’s how we got the toddler bed on Sunday night. And we also stuffed his car filled with goodies to store for us in Cleveland (crib, highchair, clothes, toys…).
During his visit, we mostly hung around the neighborhood. We visited one of our favorite playgrounds and got ice cream one day. Strawberry seems to be the fav.
And on Tuesday it was looking like rain so we headed on the train to the Transit Museum.
A place I have been wanting to take Theo to since he absolutely loves the subway, and buses and trains, in general. He will always be excited for a trip on the train. And then to get to run around on a faux platform and run in and out of all kinds of old subway cars it was certainly a happy day for Theo.

I, of course, couldn’t resist buying Theo one of those little toy subway cars. He hasn’t let it too far out of his sight ever since. And he’s not even really one of those kids that gets super into a certain toy (except for monkey, of course!). Here he is yesterday clenching on tight…
And this was…
Funny Monkey
And more from the toddler bed…
This is what I peeked in to find during Day 1 in his toddler bed. It wound up being an over 3 hour nap! He has been doing amazingly well in his new big boy bed and seems to have really taken well to the change. We (well, Grandpa Joe) even took apart the crib yesterday and packed it up for storage in Cleveland. Theo didn’t seem to really bat an eyelash about it. I really felt that he was ready to be done with the crib. For now, we have the bed right next to our bed, instead of in the space where his crib was. I’m not sure if we will leave it there permanently… or, at least until we move and he has his own room. He has woken up during the night and crawled into our bed saying, “hi”, and promptly falling back to sleep. Jay was able to transfer him back into his bed the first night and I think the next two he just stayed with us. Not sure how that will get resolved but it’s nice to not have to actually get up and bring him into our bed as we were doing most nights anyhow. He does it himself now. Mostly I’m glad he is happy and secure napping and going to bed, as normal. I have to think it’s due in part to the fact that he has a sound routine and he is typically really ready for his nap, or bedtime, because of this. Here is the bed on it’s own…
Don’t be alarmed by the fact that there is a radiator right next to his bed. We never even turn it on in the winter because it gets so hot in here. If we do, we will obviously be moving the little guy back to where his crib used to be. Happy sleeping (we hope)!
“Mama, Dada… married.”
This is what Theo says whenever he sees a photo from that day… or whenever he plays with my ring. It’s very sweet and I love that he was there and is able to (at least for now) remember that he was there. I printed some photos and framed them the other day and Theo was being such a little ham looking at the one pictured and saying his usual, “Mama, Dada… married.” Such a sweetheart, that Theo.
The Toddler Bed
Well, we picked up an adorable, used toddler bed frame from one of the parent listservs I’m on for $20 last night. We moved it in and hooked up his crib mattress with a new choo choo train sheet this afternoon and decided to give it a go for his nap. Could it be true that he is sleeping in it like a baby (well, toddler) right now??! I’m not 100% sure, but I’m pretty sure. It’s been 45 minutes and I haven’t heard a peep. I will have to provide an update after we see how the next few days go. And, of course, a photo will be in order. We aren’t exactly sure where it’s going to go in our room (where the crib currently is, next to our bed), and we haven’t officially taken apart the crib. However, we are planning to send the crib (and several other things!) back with Grandpa Joe who is visiting until Wednesday.
Today is a day for many big boy changes around here. We also got a new (old) tall, wooden chair from my Mom so that we can officially move out his high chair, which he technically hasn’t used for awhile. He seems to really like the chair, too! It was my Mom’s husbands when he was a kid. It keeps him up nice and tall and he can use our little butcher block, island thingy as a table. That’s our make shift table for the moment. When did my sweet, little baby boy get so big?
