More Baby Shower

I wanted to include a photo of my high school girls! These ladies rock for making it to my shower… a big thanks to all of them for being there! It meant a lot to me. I don’t get to see many of them very often, or even talk to them often, but they all have a special place in my heart and we have so many hilarious and amazing memories. I want Theo to know how important friends are… near and far.

Baby Shower Time

Yesterday was my baby shower. Aside from the fact that it wound up being one of those very muggy, hot Cleveland days… it was wonderful! So many friends and family came to celebrate me, Jay, and baby Theo. It was amazing to experience that kind of love and support. We are very loved. I wish Jay could’ve been there. He had to stay back in NYC and work until later this week. The hostesses (Jay’s mom, my sister, my mom & stepmom) did a great job of throwing us a great shower and my Dad and Sherry were so kind to open up their home to everybody. Thank you!

My mom put together a poster of photos of Jay and I over the years
(please note: Jay as a baby sailor)…

We had tables outside in the yard…

With beautiful centerpieces made by my sister Carrie…

Besides the delicious carrot cake, we had some other of my favorite fabulous sweet treats…so nice!

My favorite sister, nieces, and I… and my dearest friend of 25 years, Diane!

We got so many wonderful gifts and somehow we survived through the long gift opening session. The A/C was barely working with the amount of people packed into my Dad’s house. I am so thankful for all that we received and for all of the love and support that is around us. Thank you all so much!

Q Train to the Brooklyn Birthing Center

Another visit to the Brooklyn Birthing Center today for my prenatal check-up. I am 30 weeks and things are looking good. I heard his heartbeat loud and clear and it was within healthy range. My blood pressure and measurements were on point, as well. I’ve gained about 17-18 lbs. Theo is very active and the midwife said this should be the most active time since he still has a decent amount of space. I have to pay attention to make sure his movement stays busy and feels the same. The only bad news is that I am slightly anemic and need to start taking herbal iron supplements a few times a day to get my numbers up, otherwise I can’t deliver at BBC. And I really want to deliver there. I love this place. It’s a home-like environment and everyone there is really nice. They support the women wholly and support the family’s right to self-determination in an alternative birth environment.

I took some pics of the place so others can see what it’s like. There are two birthing rooms, a family room, bathroom, of course, and a tub is available for those who are interested in laboring or giving birth in water. They offer sort of a breastfeeding 101 there, too, and I plan to attend the class before Sept.

I kind of got overwhelmed today because there is so much we still have to do in the next 10 weeks. Only 10 weeks away! It’s starting to really fly by now. We have to find a doula, consider a pediatrician, make plans for baby’s circumcision, take our childbirth education class (we are already signed up for July), and attend some breastfeeding classes, too. Not to mention getting our house in order! It’s all very exciting and becoming much more real. I’m headed to Cleveland this weekend for my baby shower and I am so very excited to see all of my friends and family. So happy that so many people love and support me and Jay and can’t wait to meet baby Theo! We are really lucky.

Mad River Valley, Vermont

We went to Vermont last weekend for a friend’s wedding. It was really beautiful. Quiet and lush. We finally snapped some photos of the baby bump so I figure now is as good a time as any to start documenting our experiences and adventures now that we have a baby boy coming into our lives! It will be great for us to post photos and updates about Theo so that our friends and family who are spread out in various cities and countries will be able to see what we are up to.

Theo has already traveled to Washington DC, Vermont, Cleveland – of course – and he has even been to Yankee Stadium to see the Tribe.

I am feeling great and am incredibly fortunate for having such a pleasant pregnancy. It is getting pretty hot as I get bigger and I am certainly slowing down quite a bit. Theo is moving around a ton and we are so excited for the day when we finally get to meet him! Our apartment is coming together slowly in anticipation of our new addition. Until then… stay tuned for Theo’s arrival!
