He gave me a real pose today.
Some new things
Theo has done a few new, endearing things lately that I’d like to remember. We took a big trip on the train with Dada on Sunday to visit our cousins, which is something he loves to do, and we don’t do very often unless Dada is around since it can be a royal pain for me to do alone. If I do take him, it’s usually strapped to my back in the Ergo. Anyhow, Jay carries the stroller up and down the stairs while I carry the bags. Obviously this is something Theo has experienced before, but this time he seemed to take note. Since that day, he has had Elmo in his toy stroller at home and has proceeded to lift the stroller up while walking and say, “choo-choo!”, and then, “heavy!”. Very silly.
I know I have mentioned his language development but it seems to me that now he is repeating pretty much everything we say. That includes words I shouldn’t be saying. And he is starting to say two words together. I mentioned “all done” before, which he uses liberally now, but now when I ask, “how much does Mama love you?” He says, “so much!” And he will repeat, “how much?” Sweet boy.
Ups and Downs
Gee, I sure wish I had some lovely photos from our lovely weekend for you to admire! Unfortunately, my phone marinated in a bit of iced coffee yesterday. I backed it up fairly recently but lost my pictures from this past weekend. I guess that’s another argument for why I should be using a real camera rather than my phone. Anyhow, if you’re on Instagram, you would have had the pleasure of seeing several photos from this weekend (I’m talking to you, Lisa!). I can’t seem to figure out how to get those photos anywhere else but in Instagram (or Facebook). Oh, well. Since I had to buy a new phone, it has been determined that I probably won’t be visiting Cleveland in July, as I had originally planned.
The weather turned beautiful this weekend after quite a bit of off and on rain all week. It had been quite a long week with Theo being sick so it was nice to enjoy some decent weather and some family and friends time, too.
We had a picnic in the park down near Bay Ridge where Cori, Scott, and the boys live. Some other friends joined, too. And Jay’s brother, Andreas, was in town. They turned on the water at our local playground, so Theo got to play a little in the sprinklers. Jay had Memorial Day off, which was a pleasant surprise. We took a trip down to Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, which is this fun water play area and playground for kids on the edge of Brooklyn. It’s a great view of the city and there is a rooftop deck for beer drinking and hot dog eating. We did some of both. The weekend was definitely an up and Theo finally started to have a more normal appetite again.
If I can recover any photos, I will try and post them another time. Otherwise, you will just have to come and visit so you can see the fun for yourself!
Saturday
Lately
Theo’s language is growing and growing. He is now saying some choice words, like: chipmunk, ipod, muggy, mail, cheddar bunny, alright (alll-righttt!), okay (O-kaaay!), nope, class… those are some of my favorites. He says, “home”, when we are out and about, which is kind of nice to know when he’s ready. It’s very fun and exciting. He can identify most colors, new ones are pink and green, and he can identify several letters in the alphabet. He is getting there with counting 1 – 10, too.
His behavior has been pretty great, too. We’ve had some issues with other kids and with transitions and getting into the apartment from the stairwell but most have been much better as of late. He seems to listen really well, for the most part. So, at least for now, I’m thankful.
He was a bit sick the past couple of days. A mild stomach virus, I think. He was in good spirits, considering, and just didn’t have much of an appetite for two days. A little scary and worrisome, of course, but I know completely normal. After a call to the pediatrician I felt better and I think we are back on track today. Still sticking to mild foods. I’m glad he wasn’t totally wiped out. Never had a fever and his disposition was pretty normal. Anyhow, we love him lots and as always he was showered with love and affection (even in the middle of the night last night, and at 6am this morning, when he was up crying because I think he was starving!). Jay said he ate an entire banana first thing this morning. He loves a nana!

Laundry day
Some aspects of living in NYC with a kid are really hard. Like, laundry day. I used to just wait until the weekend, when Jay is home, but sometimes I just want to do the laundry. I like clean stuff. I hate having to add laundry to our list of weekend activities when we get such limited time together as a family. Jay sometimes does his on a late weeknight, too, when he gets home but that stinks. I got in the habit of just doing me and Theo’s every week so that it is less of an amount and so that we can just get it done during the week without burdening Jay late at night, or on the weekend. Either way you look at it, it kinda sucks. Theo enjoys our time there, though, which has been nice. The place we go has lots of video games, vending and gumball machines, televisions, and lots to climb on and look at. The laundromat is only a block away and Theo has been doing a great job of walking on his own while I lug our giant laundry bag. When we pass it, or any other laundromat, he says, “mat!”, and then he says, “monk!” (since we often wash his beloved monkey). He also loves the book, Knuffle Bunny, which is about leaving a stuffed bunny at the laundromat by accident so we talk about this a lot, too. We usually pass the time by playing there, visiting the playground, or going to Penny House and sharing a bagel.
