I couldn’t possibly choose which one was the cutest because of course I think they are all SO DARN CUTE! You get to see the top three.
This is a classic Theo face (below)
My Mom came into town this past weekend. Theo had some more adventures. We took him to dinner two more times. I think I’m going to avoid doing that for awhile. He was actually really good. Mostly he just sleeps in the Moby Wrap and when he wakes up hungry I feed him. Still, it’s kind of a bit much to drag him to restaurants and such. At least for me it is. Here are some photos from the weekend.
Theo ate at the world famous Junior’s in Brooklyn! We were the ones who got to enjoy the cheesecake, though. Someday Theo, someday.
Bundled up for the trip to our favorite local Italian restaurant, Cataldo’s.
Here’s a video of Theo! He gets all smiley on his changing table for some reason.
Theo is 6 weeks today. Our last trip to the doctor was this past Friday. He weighs 9lbs 14oz and is 21 1/2 inches. He has grown so much! He is in the 50th percentile. Right smack dab in the middle. His circumcision has healed and the doctor said overall he looks great. He actually seems to like the doctor’s office. Mostly because he can lay there and stare up at all the bright lights. He likes that. I’m sure once the shots are introduced he may not like going there anymore. We really like the pediatrician he has been going to see at Park Slope Pediatrics but we will be switching as of November 1. We are putting him on Americhoice through Child Health Plus. It is just too much to put him on my health insurance ($470/month!). He will start going to Tribeca Pediatrics. This place comes highly recommended by many parents on the neighborhood listserv I’m on so I am thrilled that they accept his new insurance. They have a low-intervention philosophy and space out the vaccines. They also have this side program called Tribeca Parenting that offers workshops and such… they have information sessions for parents to learn more about the vaccine controversies and all of the immunizations that are recommended so that makes me happy.
Everyone told me that after the first six weeks you start to come out of the newborn fog. I really do feel a lot better and much more comfortable at this parenthood thing. I feel less tired and I’m certainly all healed from pregnancy and labor & delivery. It has gotten easier taking him out for walks, changing his diaper, and trying to determine when he is hungry, tired, or just wants to be comforted, etc. Theo smiles now and, like everyone says, it makes every difficult aspect worth it when you see that sweet, toothless grin. He definitely recognizes us and can follow our voices now, too. I play a game with him where I move my head several inches to the left and then the right and have him follow me with his eyes. He’s getting good at it! I don’t think he has found his hands and fingers yet. He might be a thumb sucker because he loves to shove his fists in his mouth when he is hungry. We attempted to introduce the pacifier last week and he doesn’t seem to like it. He gagged himself a bit. Maybe he’ll like it when he is bigger. He really likes to suck, as do most babies. He also does this adorable thing where he makes a fist with both hands and puts them under his chin when he eats from a bottle.
Overall, he seems to be a happy baby with a pleasant temperament. When he gets fussy, it usually means he’s hungry. He’s not too picky. He is both breastfeeding and taking formula but we are trying to increase my milk production so that we can get back to more breastfeeding. Either way, he seems happy and I just want to be sure he is healthy and satisfied. He often naps in the swing and sometimes likes to hang out in there and just look around or up at his little friends dangling above. We just brought out the Happy Hang Out Jungle Activity Mat and he lays there and checks out the animals and listens to the jungle tunes. Occasionally I catch him trying to nurse on the animals so I have to watch. I think that’s it for Theo’s life so far.
We had more family visitors this past weekend. My sister came out with my nieces and my Dad, Sherry, and two of my four stepbrothers (the other two already live here) came to NY, as well. They visited with us and we celebrated my stepbrother Noah’s 30th birthday.

We had dinner on Saturday night in Manhattan. This was Theo’s first big night out in the city! We had to put him in a stylish little button down for the occasion. Such a big boy!
Honestly, I was a bit nervous about taking him to dinner. I wasn’t quite ready to brave the subway with him for that long so we drove my sister’s car to dinner instead. He did really well! Mostly he slept on me in the Moby Wrap. We took him out for awhile and he hung out and ate a bit. All in all it was a good time once I got over my anxiety of taking him out around that many people and worrying that he would just be fussy. I’m glad we could be there. It’s been quite sometime since we have all been together (my Dad’s side) in one place. Here we all are on Saturday night. Sambuca on the Upper West Side. Happy 30th Birthday Noah!!
We took a quick little trip to the park last Saturday to celebrate our friend’s birthday. I’m glad the weather has been so nice this September. Theo has been able to go on many walks. Today we walked back to the park to support “Miles for Midwives”. I didn’t get any pics but we saw our doula, Jessi, one of the midwives from the Birthing Center, and our birthing assistant (and fellow NYAAF board member!), Kate. They are really great.
