3 days, 4 injuries

It’s been a rough few days for Theo! It started the other day when him and I came home and he was so excited to see Jay that he ran over to him and instead of stopping when he approached his desk he ran straight into the corner of it! He has a little cut on his lip. Then, Friday, Jay took him to the Staten Island Children’s Museum and apparently he fell and banged the side of his face on a seesaw. He’s got a pretty decent sized red slash on his face. Then, today, we were at the playground and he decided to just go face first down the slide instead of sitting on his butt, which we are always reminding him to do. Occasionally, he attempts to keep walking straight down the slide and instead it threw him forward and he went down face first. 🙁 He has a massive fat lip. See photo below. To top it all off, later this afternoon, we went to our friend Rob’s for a late brunch and Theo was so excited to see the cat but the cat didn’t feel the same way. Kitty mean mugged Theo and his hand is all scratched up. All in all, a rough few days for the little guy. He still had fun dancing and playing over at Rob’s but it was sad to see him afraid of the cat. When we got home he was still making his kitty cat meow’s so hopefully he isn’t permanently traumatized.

Teeth

I may have mentioned that Theo has been getting a bunch of new teeth recently. I was looking back at some pictures from Thanksgiving/Christmas and he still had the same 6 teeth since he turned one. Well, they certainly did start sprouting quickly after that. I think he has about 14 now? That includes a couple molars. They’re not all completely all the way up but pretty close. He looks so much more grown because of those teeth.

I took these this morning with my Instagram app. If you have it, you should follow me! Then you can see all kinds of photos of Theo each day. I’m not always a fan of the filters, and more often then not the photos are blurry, but I try to at least get him every day, or so.

Delicious things

Theo makes this hilarious and adorable sound when he eats something he really likes. We were at the Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe this morning for a nice bagel breakfast and as soon as Theo had his first bite he let out this loud, high-pitched “Mmmmmmm!” Everyone looked at us and smiled. A man after my own heart. A real New Yorker this kid is. 🙂

Theo is saying a bunch more words and he is doing an amazing job at pointing things out in his books. I am finding myself amazed that he knows so much! He can point out different animals, boats, bubble baths, toilets, toothbrushes, butterflies, flowers, goggles(?)… it is so exciting to watch this little boy learn and grow. Love him!

We also started going to a new playgroup this week. Just for parents in Prospect Heights. We are meeting on Wed mornings and rotating houses. We’ll see how it goes because most people don’t have a ton of space. There were about 5 kids at the first one this week. It was pretty good and the parents seem nice enough. Theo was pretty comfortable and (once again) enjoyed a bagel and ginger snaps. He stuck by my side a little but mostly played around with the toys on his own.

Endings

Theo has started clapping when we finish reading a book or singing a song. He’s been an avid clapper for months (actually since Father’s Day last year!) but it’s really cool to see how he has learned that this is a positive response when something is finished, not just a fun thing to do. The good news is that he still hasn’t figured out that my voice is awful. That will come soon enough. For now I will just take my applause with a kiss and a smile.

He seems to have really turned a corner in development, interacting more with his surroundings (listening more closely to outside sounds, pointing at things, and responding by clapping and dancing to music and endings). He was crying and freaked out this morning with construction noises from another apartment. He was hiding in the kitchen and when I told him what it was, that everything was okay, and asked him to come join me in the living room he just kept shaking his head no. Poor guy. I notice he recognizes songs now and gets excited and he recognizes the alphabet when he hears somebody else singing it (as we did at the morning singalong today). He also does this funny thing when he’s unsure about something, or freaked out… he sort of shrugs his shoulder, scrunches his face, and says, “mamamama?”.
