Almost three

When people ask Theo how old he is now he says, “I’m two (brief silence), I’m alllmost three”. We talked about this fact awhile back and it’s lovely to see him utilizing his knowledge of time and events when somebody asks him his age. I was even more impressed the other day when a woman at a store we go to ask him his birthday. I know we talked about it fairly recently, when it is, that he’ll be three and what special gifts he might want. He paused briefly and I said, “is it September?”. He completed the sentence and said, “seventh… September seventh”. I can’t believe he knows his own birthday?!

In other news, Theo is funny. He continues to say the funniest and most amazing sentences. Yesterday we were eating salad (in the living room!) and he kept saying, “I want a big big huge one in my mouth!” He only loves big bites. Of everything. I’m just glad he likes salads.

Here is photo of Theo “getting soaked”, as he likes to say, at the library fountains the other day. One of our regular haunts. Hooray for summer fun!

And the beautiful boy painting the other morning. He requested to do so out of the blue and, of course, I obliged. I adore watching him get into an activity. He looked back at me and said, “look at it, it’s wonderful!”.

Our very first wedding anniversary! Last year at this time we were newly married and walking our way across the Brooklyn Bridge. We are now a week and a half away from our wedding reception party where we get to renew our vows and celebrate with many of our friends and family. We created a website for our party and a section of it is dedicated to the proposal from “his” and “her” perspective. Since the website won’t be up for long, Jay suggested we put that section here on our blog so that we can have it forever. And so our kid(s) can see it down the road. So, here goes…

His story:

Every man wants to give his gal the perfect engagement. Me, I always thought I’d propose over the Jumbotron at MSG. Marci said she wouldn’t prefer that but I knew deep down inside she wanted it. Either way, Mike beat me to it with his Cavs stunner! So it was time for plan B. I wanted it to be special and something New York-centric so we would always remember our time here. A subway proposal it would be. One Saturday, I decided to lock it up on our way to Marci’s friend Mandie’s house party. That way she could brag to all her friends and it would be a great night. I couldn’t contain myself- I told everybody that day. The Arsenal bros heard as I walked out of the Black Horse. I cornered Lalena when she came over to babysit Theo and pulled out the ring when Marci was in the other room. I’m sure I told Liz at some point.

I was really nervous on that 2 train and completely froze up. I didn’t say a word to Marci on the train and I was sweatin bullets. I knew that if I didn’t pick a time to do it, I would certainly chicken out. So it was going to be under the East River. Bergen… Nevins… Hoyt… with each stop my pulse quickened as I approached the impending plunge. The train wasn’t packed, but all the seats were taken and there was an occasional straphanger standing close to us. Finally, as the doors closed at Clark St., I knew it was my time to nail this mutha. As the train reached full speed, I turned to Marci and said, “There is something I need to do.” I fumbled thru my front pocket for the ring. Marci said, “Is this happening right now?” Yes.

She said yes, the train clapped, I gave a couple nods of my head to the crowd, buried it in Marci’s shoulder, and the rest is history.

Her story:

Although we had been planning our secret nuptials at city hall, and had looked at rings together a couple times, I was still surprised when Jay got down on one knee on the 3 train as we traveled from Brooklyn to Manhattan one evening last June. Our wedding day was only a few days away, so I guess I knew the ring was coming. I hoped it was coming! I never would have guessed he would have proposed on the subway. Jay doesn’t like bringing attention to himself, at least amongst strangers. Looking back, he was acting a bit nervous on the train. Our conversation a little strange and he was fidgety. As we headed under the East River, he reached in his pocket, got down on one knee, popped out a gorgeous ring I had drooled over and asked me to marry him. It was so quick and yet felt like slow motion. My face immediately went in my hands as I was surprised, happy and knew everyone was staring at us! I said yes (was he uncertain?!) and the whole train began to clap. It was very sweet and romantic in a very city slicker kinda way and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Happy Father’s Day to the Daddy in our little family!

I know it’s been quiet around the blog lately. Rest assured we are all doing well and keeping quite busy. I’ll fill in more details soon. For now, I would like to wish Jay a happy, happy father’s day once again!

We let Daddy sleep in a bit this morning. I had a coffee mug made for him with a photo of him and Theo so this morning we also made him a homemade card and wrapped the mug with a bow. When it was time, Theo walked into the bedroom saying, “I have a present for you! Happy Father’s Day!”. It was so sweet. I also ordered bagel sandwiches this morning so Daddy would have a delicious one waiting for him (with bacon!) when he woke up. It was a nice, leisurely morning.

We did some errands, a Daddy haircut at his request, and then later in the day met our friends for a walk and an early bite. Theo decided it was time to nap in the stroller at 5:30pm! Eeek. We let the boy rest and enjoyed a restaurant outing for probably the first time in ages where we didn’t have to constantly make sure he was occupied, entertained and wasn’t getting into trouble. It was kinda nice. We knew we were in for a late bedtime, though. We took advantage of the evening and played at the playground on our way home with Josh, Laura and Eden.

Thanks to Jay for always being there for me and Theo. Even when it’s your special day, you still took care of me when I needed you to today and it doesn’t go unnoticed. We love you bunches!

The Alphabet, redux

I don’t what he is saying there at the end but when we were watching it over and over again Theo was CRACKING UP!

Far Rockaway

What’s the water doing?

What’s gonna happen nowww??

This is before he fell face first onto the surf. He was none too pleased about that salty water!

But then we got to go play with the showers to get rinsed off…

Our family

A friend took photos of us Memorial Day weekend down at Brooklyn Bridge Park. I wanted recent photos for our upcoming wedding party. And also just to have some new decent photos of our family. It’s gorgeous down there because it’s a completely renovated new park, there is Jane’s Carrousel and you have lovely views of the city and the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. My professional photographer/Mom friend is taking some more of us next weekend so between both of those we should have a few keepers. Here are a few of my personal favs.

This is one is by far the most hilarious and most adorable. Theo was so excited to pose for the camera. I think it’s my favorite. (Note: matching jackets. double hilarious)
