More than 40 weeks…

Surprise! It’s still just me. I’m sure those who are checking on here would like to start seeing some posts of Theo… believe me, I would too! He still hasn’t arrived. I guess he’s not quite ready to make his debut into the world. He will come when he’s ready. In the meantime, I will document my belly as it continues to grow and provide some more pregnancy updates. Yay!

We were back at the birthing center on Wednesday (our due date) for our check-up. The good news is that the baby is dropping and the midwife said he is perfectly positioned and engaged in the pelvis. These are good signs that he is getting ready. His heartbeat was great and everything continues to look normal. They don’t start doing any tests, or even an internal exam, until 41 weeks. She swears that most women have the baby closer to 41 weeks and that there is no point in doing extra exams or this or that because she trusts that the baby will come when he is ready. Even if she would have checked and found me to be 4cm dilated, it still wouldn’t mean I would have the baby any sooner than 41 weeks. Same goes for finding no dilation… I could still go into labor tomorrow and it wouldn’t make a difference. So, we wait.

I have a sonogram appt for next Wed at 41 weeks. This is where they check to make sure the amniotic fluid level is still okay and they look closely at the heartbeat and other movements of the baby. Then I am back at the birthing center to perhaps talk about some ways to get things started naturally. I am also considering going for acupuncture on Tuesday if I haven’t had the baby by then.

Mostly I just do not want to get to 42 weeks and I do not want to be induced. So, I will wait until 41 weeks and then see what they say. Like the midwife says though… typically these natural ways to induce labor don’t even matter because the baby will come when he comes. And she trusts that it will be within the week. We are ready!

Jay and I have finally been here at the apartment together all week. It has been so nice. We have been finishing up last minute baby things… thank you cards, packing our “go” bag, reviewing our birth preferences, cleaning up clutter (sort of!), and just relaxing together – watching movies and napping!

It has been way too hot. I think the weather is finally breaking tonight and the weekend and next week will be down in the 70’s. Thank you. Perfect weather to bring home a baby. 🙂
