On Sunday we took a drive to Aviator Sports and Event Center, near the Rockaways, to take Theo ice skating for his very first time. It probably would have be much cooler to take a train into the city to ice skate outdoors in Central Park, or Bryant Park, but we opted to stay on this side of the river. Honestly I’m holding out for the brand new ice skating rink in Prospect Park to open later this year. It will be complete with a roller rink in the warmer months and I have heard also sprinkler fun for the kiddos during the summer. And we can walk there! Anyways, I digress…

So we went ice skating! Aviator is one of the indoor rinks where Jay plays hockey. And, seriously, good thing he does because this Mama certainly can’t skate very well. I tried to be the photographer, getting some nice shots of Daddy and Theo, but even that was tough. Theo had a really nice time. He was not scared at all and, of course, really wanted to try full force. The usual repetition, “self! self!”, was uttered frequently peppered in with preschooler frustration given the fact that it’s just too dangerous for him to really try on his own. He walked amazingly in the skates and really did take a couple strides on his own with Daddy nearby to catch him. He kept saying, “Theo fall down!” and I realized that he actually wanted to fall down. Like, for fun. And this is what we got…

Blurry giggles!

Jay skated him around, dragging him sort of behind, and Theo got a couple “uppies” while Daddy skated fast(ish) around the rink. Of course the trip wouldn’t be complete without some other obsession (a helicopter flying ’round and ’round) that Theo wanted in the arcade but then was closed, much to his dismay. We shared french fries and pizza and it was a really nice Sunday family outing! Here are a few of my blurry photos…

  1. That looks so fun! And Theo wanting to fall down is beyond adorable. Little Charlie Chaplin!
